Extinction of Species

We are currently in the sixth greatest extinction of species, mainly due to habitat loss.

This photo was taken before the forest was cut down. This is a great horned owl and offspring. Owls take up to a year to be able to fly. After nesting, they live mostly on the ground until they can fly. The forest was cut down during the summer of 2021. We don’t know if these birds survived.

The Eastern mud turtle is recognized as an endangered species and it was reported to have been last seen in the Graniteville Wetland and Forest.

Documentation to follow.
